# About Me

I am a Research Software Engineer working with a team on a project that entails development of [electronic lab notebooks for chemistry](https://www.chemotion.net/). I am/will be working with a plethora of technologies including Ruby, Go, JS, Docker _et cetera_. More details in the future! Before this, I was a materials' scientist. You can know more about my [career here](aboutme/career) or have a look at my [scientific output](aboutme/science).

As a part of my work, I spent quite a bit of time with scientific code, both as a [user](https://fhi-aims.org/) as well as a [developer](https://gitlab.com/NC-AFM-at-UniLeeds/atmos). Consequentially, I have considered myself a [research software engineer](https://society-rse.org) (RSE) since ~2021 and I am committed to the [principles](https://fair-software.eu) of FAIR [^fair] software. In April 2021, I became a certifed [Software](https://software-carpentry.org) [Carpentry](https://carpentries.org) instructor, by undertaking an Instructor training course [^thanks] in which I learned about [pedagogical approaches](https://teachtogether.tech/en/index.html) that are useful when teaching technological tools. Having taught and helped in several Carpentry workshops [^coderefinery], I have grown a lot as an (IT) instructor and I love the feedback I recieve.

Beyond this, I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to podcasts, capturing interesting stuff on camera, and drinking coffee. My small [family](link:family) brings incalculable joy to my life.

In the spare time that remains, I read through reams of [Wikipedia](https://www.wikipedia.org) articles, generally on topics related to history, religion and economics. My choice of physical activity is running.

As a conscious decision, I have a faltering web-presence beyond this website. I have

- a [Linkedin](https://www.linkedin.com/in/harivyasi) profile,
- a [Twitter](https://twitter.com/harivyasi) account with but one tweet,
- an [ORCID](https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2174-5226) page,
- a [Google Scholar page](https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=iXfN9ewAAAAJ),
- and an outdated-and-dormant profile on f**eb**k that is destined for deletion.

And, yes, I am a [somewhat-certified](https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q61849125) human.

[^fair]: **FAIR**: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable software/data.
[^thanks]: Thanks to the [Software Sustainability Institute](https://software.ac.uk) of the UK.
[^coderefinery]: Plus helped in a [CodeRefinery](https://coderefinery.org) [workshop](https://coderefinery.github.io/2021-05-10-workshop) as an exercise leader.
